Law360 has reported that Google LLC and Singular Computing LLC have settled a patent lawsuit over computer chip designs that improve efficiency for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The joint motion to settle the case comes two weeks into a federal jury trial in Massachusetts and as both parties were set to deliver closing arguments.
Google consistently argued the technology underlying the computer chips at issue was fundamentally different from Singular's technology and patents. Google has also challenged the validity of the patents.
"His patented claim is a device using approximate math, which means getting incorrect answers on a regular basis," Keker partner Bob Van Nest said during the trial. He added that the ideas for the chip designs were never used by Google and "were simply not right for Google or anyone else."
Google is represented by Bob Van Nest, Gene Paige, Rachael Meny, Christopher Sun, Andrew Bruns; associates Deeva Shah and Spencer McManus; and senior IP attorney Vishesh Narayen.
