Laurie Carr Mims Says Perkins Coie Ruling Could Offer ‘Persuasive Force’ for Other EO Litigation

A federal judge’s ruling striking down President Donald Trump’s executive order targeting Perkins Coie could be an indicator for three other law firm cases, a Law.com article reported. Keker, Van Nest & Peters Managing Partner Laurie Carr Mims was quoted in the article, saying that U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell's opinion should have a “persuasive force to the other judges considering these cases.”

“This certainly was an important victory for the rule of law and for the legal profession, which is being threatened significantly by these attacks on law firms,” she said, and included the administration's more general attacks on law firms seeking redress for government wrongdoings. “So it is a gratifying result.”

Perkins Coie is the first to receive a summary judgment ruling. Three other federal judges in D.C. are also weighing summary judgment motions in law firm executive order litigation, including those filed by Jenner & Block, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr, and Susman Godfrey.
