The AmLaw Litigation Daily selected a Keker, Van Nest & Peters trial team as Litigator of the Week Runners-Up for winning a preliminary injunction that secured the release of a Colombian asylum seeker illegally detained by ICE during a regular immigration check-in. The team includes Erin Meyer and Jonhatan Aragon.
This ruling adds to a growing body of case law establishing that noncitizens released from immigration custody cannot be subjected to arbitrary re-detention. Keker's client is home with her family, though not before being transported to a detention facility in Honolulu.
