Elliot Peters Discusses Prosecutorial Overreach in Aaron Swartz Case

NBC
02/22/2013

"I have never been arrested, never been indicted. But if and when I am, the first call I'm going to make is to Elliot Peters. That's because Elliot Peters is possibly the best lawyer in California. He's been named Attorney of the Year by the journal The Recorder and the magazine California Lawyer. He's represented Major League baseball players, he was Lance Armstrong's lawyer and just got a client released from prison for a crime he didn't commit, and Peters did that pro bono."

"But it was Peters' representation of Aaron Swartz that first caught our attention. Swartz in many people's eyes was the victim of prosecutorial overreach. The 26 year old reverse hacker, or prankster depending on who you believe, took his own life shortly before his trial."

To hear Mr. Peters comments on prosecutorial overreach, and his planned defense of Aaron Swartz and his client's legacy, please watch the video below.

For three decades Elliot Peters has litigated, tried and advised clients in some of the nation's most high-profile, high-stakes complex commercial and white collar criminal cases. Mr. Peters has tried more than 50 cases on behalf of CEOs, leading law firms, and major corporations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has also been named Attorney of the Year by California Lawyer and The Recorder, the Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer, and one of the Top 100 Attorneys in California by the Daily Journal.
